What is My Child's
Treatment
Day Like?
Your child’s daily schedule is comprised of a mixture
of contrived and naturalistic teaching to facilitate communication
with a structured and scientific teaching methodology. The
Shape of Behavior uses a scientific treatment approach based
upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
Your child learns to function with distraction by sharing
a treatment room with 2-4 other children. Group activities
such as circle time to facilitate school readiness and social
skills are incorporated into every session.
Your child has their own instructional trainer to maximize
their learning potential.
Time with typical peers is included throughout the week
for our preschool children. Learning from and with
typically developing children is a vital part of your child
success.

What About
the Curriculum?
Shape of Behavior doesn’t believe in forcing your child
into a curriculum, instead, we believe in recognizing each
individual’s
strengths and weaknesses as well as learning style and custom
creating a curriculum to build areas your child is weak in
and challenge them in the areas they strive in. Motivation
is constantly assessed during teaching to help your child’s
achieve maximum potential.
The general curriculum covers 25 areas of language and learning
including but not limited to motivation, visual, imitation
including fine and gross motor, verbal, academic, social,
and self-help skills.
SkillsStreaming and Video Modeling to teach social skills
are incorporated into your child’s treatment day to
foster independent social interaction. Naturalistic
teaching trials are practiced daily to enhance generalization
of these skills.
Independent Leisure activities are incorporated into every
day. Your child will learn some form of self monitoring
and independent skills such as an “activity schedule.” This
will foster independent learning which can be transferred
into your home.
Self help skills are incorporated into the daily curriculum
along with fine and gross motor development activities. The
Shape of Behavior uses a progression of fine motor tasks
developed by an occupational therapist to prepare young children
for handwriting. Ask us about our recreation therapy
class offered on site!
